Marking her debut solo show at turntable gallery, Gabriel Shields Hanau will be launching her performance of subzero alongside a presentation of new pieces. With work spanning welded sculpture, handcrafted prints, video and a sonic installation, the exhibition reflects the eclectic diversity of the artist’s life and practice. Defining her work as “engaged in a process of alchemy", the artist states that "transformation and its possibilities are what sustains me.”
To this effect, broken debris become mirrors through which we capture glimpses of ourselves. Toy animals transmogrify, to become dockland monsters, each inviting us to whisper our secrets to the winds. These hidden stories invite us to enter a veil of mystery, and all that hides within it. In collaboration with a host of other creatives, the artist is able to draw upon a collective wealth of resources and knowledge in order to present a multi-disciplinary exhibition of physical and ephemeral works. Performances will be shown on the 6, 7, 8 & 9 of November, with matinée and evening shows. Tickets that contribute to supporting the labour of local artists are available via Eventbrite and on the door, on a sliding scale. Gabriel will also be conducting a workshop of Sonic Poetry on November 2nd, from 1 pm - please join us!
